Department offers new student scholarships
We are pleased to announce several new student scholarship awards made possible by Haris Sorovigas, fixed-term faculty of finance. The royalty payments earned from the electronic business law and ethical leadership textbook he authored provide the funding. Scholarship amounts depend on the specific award and total royalties received. The selection process is competitive, with a faculty committee reviewing the applications and determining the recipients.
Faculty General Business Scholarship: Two annual awards of $1,500 each; one is awarded to a student majoring in finance or expecting to do so and one is awarded to a non-finance major.
Faculty Business Study Abroad Scholarship: A one-time award of $1,000 to help defray expenses for students participating in a study abroad program offered or sponsored by the Department of Finance. Four students received this scholarship for Summer 2022 programs, and we hope to aid the same number for Summer 2023. The department fully supports MSU’s and Broad’s focus on preparing students for the global workplace. Haris leads a study abroad program in Greece each summer.
Faculty Business Merit Scholarship: A one-time award of $1,500 recognizes undergraduate finance majors for their academic achievement, leadership, and volunteerism. Three students will receive this scholarship this year.
Faculty Business Law and Ethical Leadership Scholarships: Multiple $150 awards to undergraduate students enrolled in our required Business Law and Ethical Leadership classes. Students should demonstrate financial need. We understand that textbooks are expensive, and we try to lower the cost for those who cannot afford them.
These scholarships, in addition to the Finance Excellence Scholarship Fund we started in 2021, support undergraduate finance majors based on merit and financial need. Please consider a year-end contribution to this fund, enabling us to support additional students. Visit givingto.msu.edu today to make your gift. Thank you!
